Panel on Global Recognition of Halal Certificates was Held in İstanbul
"Panel on Global Recognition of Halal Certificates", organized within the margin of 39th Ministerial Session of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (COMCEC) in cooperation with COMCEC and Halal Accreditation Agency (HAK), was held in Istanbul on December 3rd, 2023 with the moderation of Mr. Zafer SOYLU, Chairman of BoD of HAK, and was attended by H.E. Mustafa TUZCU, Turkish Deputy Minister of Trade.
The steps taken in this field such as the establishment of the Islamic Forum for Halal Accreditation Bodies (IFHAB) with the aim of eliminating the obstacles to halal certified trade between the member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation by recognizing halal certificates between countries without the need for any other process through the accreditation mechanism were discussed at the panel. The other panellists in the event were H.E. Dr. Saad bin Othman ALKASABI, Chairman of BoD of SMIIC and Governor of Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) and Mr. Nauman ASLAM, Consul-General of Pakistan.
H.E. TUZCU pointed out the importance of a global system in which halal certificates are recognized by different countries and stated that Türkiye will continue to support the steps taken in this field. TUZCU also stated that after the establishment of the Halal Accreditation Agency, Türkiye has made significant progress in establishing a reliable certification system in the field of halal by using its well-established quality infrastructure in a very short time. TUZCU expressed that the international trade of halal products and services will be eased in the upcoming period by eliminating the obstacles through the activities carried out by the IFHAB, which started its activities after completing the preparatory works under the leadership of HAK.
H.E. Dr. Saad bin Othman ALKASABI stated in the panel that the halal economy should grow with true methods and now the Islamic countries are moving towards a common vision through a halal certification approach based on uniform standards. He expressed that in this context, as a result of the studies carried out under SMIIC, the technical basis for achieving this goal has been firmly established, and as a result of the studies to be carried out by the IFHAB, the obstacles to halal certified trade will be eliminated.
The last speaker in the panel, Mr. ASLAM, gave information about Pakistan's halal quality infrastructure by mentioning the importance of recognition of halal certificates by other countries through accreditation for the development of halal certified trade.
