The MoU between Turkey and Kyrgyz Republic on Cooperation in the Field of Halal Quality Infrastructure was Signed

Memorandum of Understanding between the Halal Accreditation Agency and the Kyrgyz Center of Accreditation on cooperation and training and experience/knowledge sharing in the field of halal quality infrastructure was signed in Bishkek within the framework of the 10th Term Meeting of the Joint Economic Commission which is co-chaired by H.E. Fuat Oktay, Vice-President of Turkey, and H.E. Ulukbek Maripov, Chairman of the Cabinet of Kyrgyz Republic.

Since the halal certificate has become a "quality brand" today, halal certified products and services have become a global consumer choice preferred by non-Muslims as well as Muslims in recent years. With the growth of the global halal product and service market, it is important to establish a globally valid halal certification system in today's world, where different halal standards and certification systems both harm consumer confidence and are obstacles to trade.

As Turkey, we have adopted the halal certification approach of the Islamic Countries Standards and Metrology Institute (SMIIC), which was established within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) with active participation of 42 OIC member countries, in order to overcome technical barriers in trade, strengthen the potential of halal certified trade and ensure reliable halal certified product circulation in the world market. In this context, we carry out bilateral and multilateral cooperation activities with OIC member countries for the establishment of an internationally recognized halal certification among countries that have adopted the SMIIC approach.

In this respect, the Halal Accreditation Agency (HAK) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Kyrgyz Republic to develop cooperation as done before with Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.

We are very pleased that technical collaboration studies will be improved between the two countries within the framework of the memorandum of understanding signed with the Kyrgyz Republic, which is also among the project partner countries in our COMCEC Project that sets an example for the establishment of a global halal quality infrastructure within the framework of the SMIIC approach. With this agreement, which we see as an important step for the establishment of a mutual recognition mechanism, an important step has been taken towards the creation of a common and harmonious language for halal certification among Muslim countries.
