The importance of halal certification activities has been discussed at the 13th Kazan Summit

The importance of halal certification activities in international trade has been discussed at the session “The Path to Unity. National Halal standards in the framework of cooperation with OIC member countries” held within the scope of 13th Kazan Summit.

In his speech, Mr. Zafer Soylu, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Halal Accreditation Agency (HAK), stated that the demand for halal certificates has been gradually increasing.

Noting that a reliable halal certificate guarantees everyone’s access to halal products, Mr. Soylu said, “Therefore, halal certification essentially comes off as an element of trust between consumers and other stakeholders. Halal certificate provides competitive advantage in prices, goods and services while enabling access to opportunities in international markets”.

Drawing attention to Turkey's experience in this field, Mr. Soylu said: "Turkey has a developed quality infrastructure. It is a pioneer in many fields that can be subject to halal certification, such as food, tourism, pharmaceutical industry. I would like to underline that we have made significant progress in constructing a reliable certification system in the halal industry sector in a very short time by utilizing a deep-rooted quality infrastructure of our country with the establishment of HAK. Within the three years after we started our activities, we now provide accreditation services for halal certification of cosmetics, tourism, laboratory and personal certification as well as halal certification of food products."

Mr. Soylu stated that halal certification activities should not create technical barriers to international trade by imposing additional time, labour and cost burden for manufacturers and
continued with, "What we need is a holistic halal certification approach that meets all the needs of consumers, manufacturers, service providers and governments."

Mr. Soylu also emphasized that applicable, reasonable, and preferable standards should be used in halal certification mechanism.
