GENERAL INFORMATION

Although only 1.3% of the population of 5 million is Muslim, New Zealand has an advanced system for halal certification as a key food exporter.

New Zealand, an important producer of animal products, is one of the major suppliers of Islamic geography, especially the Gulf countries.

Halal Certification Activities

Certification is obligatory in the export of halal animal products. Certification bodies are accredited by the Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand (JASANZ) in accordance with the ISO/IEC 17065 (Conformity assessment- Generally requirement for the product, process and service certification). Apart from the JASANZ accreditation, halal documents issued by certification bodies accredited according to an ISO / IEC 17065 equivalent standard are also accepted.
