The 6th World Halal Summit Was Held On 21- 23 December 2020

The 6th World Halal Summit brought together the halal sector players and investors once again. In the main partnership of the Standards and Metrology Institute of Islamic Countries (SMIIC); World Halal Summit, which was held for the 6th time this year under the title of "Halal for Everyone: Halal in Every Aspect from Production to Consumption", started on Monday, December 21, with the opening speeches of the participants at national and international level, including the Chairman of the BoD of Halal Accreditation Agency Mr. Zafer SOYLU and Secretary General of the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC) Mr. İhsan ÖVÜT.

At the 6th World Halal Summit, which was hosted 60 participants from 15 countries, were held in conferences such as halal food, cosmetics, tourism, medicine, Islamic finance and Islamic life. At the 6th World Halal Summit, which was held concurrently with E-Halal Expo 2020, the halal market, which is expected to reach 7 trillion dollars in 10 years, was put on the agenda.

Speaking at the opening of the summit, SMIIC Secretary General Mr. ÖVÜT emphasized the importance of halal standards and said, "We are trying to bring together halal and standardization under a professional roof". Stating that the halal sector has reached a global dimension in the last 10 years and that they have published 11 halal standards related to the sectors.

Speaking at the "Halal Market and Halal Quality Infrastructure" session of the 6th World Halal Summit, Mr. SOYLU emphasized the importance of certification of halal products and services within the scope of harmonized international standards. At this point, Mr. SOYLU stated that the SMIIC approach has the most competent standards in both technical and Islamic terms. In addition, Mr. SOYLU drew attention to the fact that the certification, which has a mutually recognized accreditation, provides consumer confidence on the one hand, and facilitates trade on the other hand.

Mr. SOYLU stated that the halal economy has a global value of more than 4 trillion dollars and the importance of halal products is increasing on a global scale day by day.

Lastly, in the session titled "OIC / SMIIC Standards on Conformity Assessment", Acting Head of Department of Halal Accreditation Erdem BAŞDEMİRCİ and Halal Accreditation Expert Dr. Mete ÇEVİK made a presentation about SMIIC standards.
